A North Sydney office building will install five vertical wind turbines as part of an upgrade supported by the Australian Government’s Green Building Fund that will reduce the building’s environmental impact by generating energy in-house.
The owners of the Pacific Highway-Miller Street corner building are among 30 applicants Australia-wide who have been offered a total of $11.6 million from the Green Building Fund’s fourth round.
The Green Building Fund is a Rudd Government initiative that reduces energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions by supporting building owners to retro-fit commercial office buildings.
“This round will generate $46 million in total investment in improvements like upgraded building management systems, modern heating and air conditioning systems and upgraded lighting,” Senator Carr said.
“It will also result in projected savings of more than 26,000 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions a year.
“To date this program has resulted in $218 million in total investment in 156 building improvements that together are projected to save more than 127,000 tonnes in greenhouse gas emissions each year.
“This round has resulted in a higher proportion of successful applications for improvements to small buildings and buildings located outside CBDs.
“This shows that more and more commercial building owners are becoming aware of the triple bottom line benefits of retrofitting their buildings in terms of cost-savings, reduced emissions and improving their buildings as workplaces.”
The next rounds for Streams A and B of the program will close on 12 January 2010.
