GOVERNMENT INVITES INPUT ON TCF INDUSTRIES

Senator Kim Carr, Minister for Innovation, Industry, Science and Research, today called for written submissions in response to the recommendations set out in the Textile Clothing and Footwear (TCF) Review report Building Innovative Capability

"The call for submissions provides a valuable opportunity for those with an interest in the future of the TCF industries to contribute to the Government's considerations of the recommendations arising from the review of this important sector," Senator Carr said.

"Building Innovative Capability makes fifteen forward-looking recommendations to strengthen Australia’s TCF industries.

"I urge all stakeholders to make submissions and let their views be known," Senator Carr said.

The headline recommendation from the report is that Australia should move away from structural adjustment support and instead focus on building competitive advantage by developing innovative capabilities at the enterprise level.
The report also supports the continuation of the tariff reduction schedule for the industry to 2015.

Information on how to provide submissions along with a copy of Building Innovative Capability can be found at www.innovation.gov.au/tcfreview.
