The Australian Government is providing $3.1 million in funding to help increase opportunities for local companies to win contracts in lucrative projects around the world.
The funding is part of Supplier Access to Major Projects (SAMP) and is being delivered through the Industry Capability Network (ICN). It will link Australian companies with sought-after supply opportunities in major projects both here and overseas – boosting productivity, capability, capacity and jobs.
Announcing the funding, Innovation Minister, Senator Kim Carr, said that the SAMP money will help Australian companies to identify and capitalise on opportunities.
“Funding will be used to boost opportunities for Australian industry in a variety of projects. These include:
- liquefied natural gas projects in Western Australia
- petrochemical projects in China
- infrastructure and services for major sporting events in Brazil
- airport infrastructure in China
- the Parkville Comprehensive Cancer Centre in Melbourne
- global mining supply chains.
“This is about matching quality Australian suppliers with significant projects around the world. And it is about ensuring the skills and capabilities of Australian firms are recognised in the international marketplace.
“Through the Industry Capability Network (ICN), we are creating a national approach to identifying and pursuing opportunities in the National Broadband Network, rail, clean energy, water, oil and gas, and hospital and medical sectors.
“This approach is part of the Australian Government’s $19.1 million Australian industry participation package. Linking opportunities in major projects to local capabilities to meet needs in these sectors will help us boost productivity and create jobs into the future.
“The success already has been impressive. ICN figures indicate that since it was established, the ICN’s work has contributed to Australian companies winning contracts worth over $11 billion that may otherwise have been awarded to companies from overseas.
