NEW NETWORK TO FOSTER TCF INNOVATION

The Rudd Government today announced a new support network to boost the innovation and competitiveness of Textile, Clothing and Footwear (TCF) firms through increased collaboration.

Innovation Minister, Senator Kim Carr said the TCF Innovation Network is tasked with strengthening and creating links between TCF firms, researchers and educational institutions.

“Collaboration really is the key to innovation. This network will link TCF firms with the best ideas, experience and practice from within and outside the sector,” Senator Carr said.

“The network – part of the Government’s $50 million a year Enterprise Connect initiative – implements a key recommendation of Professor Roy Green’s review of Australian TCF industries.

“Enterprise Connect conducted a successful pilot program earlier this year to develop stronger linkages and better understand the TCF sector’s specific issues.

“Central to the network is a specialist TCF adviser to pursue collaboration opportunities.

“The network will also look at ways of mapping existing TCF business clusters and developing case studies around best practice to share with TCF firms.

“For too long Australia’s innovation system has been held back by fragmentation, duplication and a lack of co-ordination. It was for these reasons that the Government established Enterprise Connect.

“Eligible TCF businesses will have access to the same services available to Enterprise Connect clients. These include free business reviews and dollar-for-dollar tailored advisory service grants up to $20,000 to implement business review recommendations.”

TCF Innovation Network will be established with the guidance of the TCF Industries Innovation Council.

TCF Industries Innovation Council chair Mr Phillip Butler welcomed the new initiative saying: “The council looks forward to developing a strong working relationship with the new network to foster TCF innovation.

“We have everything to gain and nothing to lose from improving connections across the business spectrum,” Mr Butler said.
