Dr Craig Emerson, Minister for Small Business, Independent Contractors and the Service Economy, today launched the
2007-08 Queensland Australian Export Heroes Awards at Southport Yacht Club.
The Australian Export Heroes Awards are presented by the Australian Institute of Export, which was established to assist Australian exporters and export service providers by providing a range of skills development programs and national representation.
"The Australian Export Heroes Awards recognises contributions made by individuals in building our export enterprises and helping to develop an Australian export culture," Dr Emerson said.
"Since their inception in 1997, the Australian Export Heroes Awards have recognised 66 remarkable Australian men and women.
"Their contribution covers mining, manufacturing, arts and entertainment, tourism, agribusiness, shipbuilding, architecture, education and publishing.
"Developing our export culture adds to the growth of our international trade and strengthens Australia's position in the international business community."
Dr Emerson said that nine heroes from across the country will be selected to join the 2008 register of Australian Export Heroes.
"The export heroes who are recognised through the awards are people who have demonstrated outstanding vision in making a significant and unique impact while achieving success for their organisation and Australia in the international marketplace," Dr Emerson said.
"Queensland has a strong community of successful exporting businesses and I encourage our export leaders to nominate to become one of this year's export heroes."
Dr Emerson said that the Awards are partially supported by the Australian Government through AusIndustry in the Department of Innovation, Industry, Science and Research.
Nominations for the 2008 awards close on 30 January 2008 with nomination forms available from the Australian Institute of Export website at www.aiex.com.au. The 2008 export heroes will be inducted in a special awards evening to be held at Government House, Adelaide, on 10 April 2008.
